years. history 1970 richard alan engineering was formed by alan bragan and richard johnson. the partnership was forged whilst working together as heads of the maintenance team at a batley carpet mill. 1970 inside the original workshop, which was based in halifax, west yorkshire. 1973 the company relocated to an old, converted sunday school chapel in batley carr. initially, the business was predominantly textile engineering and manufacturing, later becoming more focused on the local chemical industry. 1990 the sons took over the business and the founding directors retired. robert johnson became managing director. 1995 the first acquisition was a stainless steel manufacturing and engineering sub-contractor, h wilman & sons, formerly a vinegar brewery, on grange road, batley. 1997 the business was relocated from batley carr to a new, purpose-built facility at shaw cross, dewsbury. the new site was chosen for its ideal central location and offered scope for expansion. 1997 allied colloids awarded us the outsourcing agreement for the manufacture, engineering and assembly of polymer equipment. in line with this development, we established an electrical, control and instrumentation department within richard alan engineering to support it. 1999 following a partnership forged with cemo pumps, south africa and the later acquisition of peter rayner ltd, a long-established and respected gearbox manufacturer based in leeds, the creation of a pump and gearbox business signified the birth of the . 2005 we acquired scaffolding access solutions , a bradford-based scaffolding contractor, allowing us to supply scaffolding systems as part of the group offering. 2007 am recruitment is acquired, and becomes part of the , expanding our portfolio of services into temporary and permanent staff recruitment. 2007 following the acquisition in 2000 of south leigh engineering, we then, in 2003, acquired gary dyson engineering ltd, further expanding our machining operation. richard alan engineering’s machining facility was given its own identity in 2007 as ramco cnc 2011 additional manufacturing facilities were secured in earlsheaton, dewsbury for mild steel fabrication, expanding our structural capabilities. 2011 rae launches richard alan water , a range of water and waste water treatment equipment. it was the first complete product range designed, manufactured and supplied by our engineering business and was aimed predominantly at water-intensive industries. 2014 invited to meet hrh the duke of york as part of apprenticeship week
